Engine temp sender location??
Hi, where is the temp sender for the temp gauge on a 280 GE??
My gauge fluctuates nearly a full section when on the move (but doesn't seem to follow how hard the engine is working or airflow)?? Any ideas??
Andy
My one was worrying me as it sometimes goes into the red, i checked the rad by feel & eye when it was in the red last time & it seemed to be fine, i did however notice that when i went to switch the lights on to drive away, the switching on the lights process made the gauge fluctuate wildly. Is this common on a G-Wagen or are they normally reliable & acurate?
Loose the rev counter in the middle and buy an after market temp gauge as a back up. Temp more important than knowing how many revs you are giving it. You know if your thrasing it buy the sound its gives, there is a rev limiter within the relay anyway.
it can be either, check the sender connection and clean terminal. The temp bezels have been known to fail as well.
Might be worth having various earthing points checked before forking out on new parts. I had a similar problem on my old 280GE and my current 300GD (both 460's). For example, if you had the headlights on when you turned the engine off, the temp gauge would shoot into the red. A visit to an auto-electrical specialist (I know naff all about fixing this sort of thing) sorted it out for minimal cost and no new parts.
Cheers PP.
Does that mean that the gauge is more likely to be at fault rather than sender?
