Every time I drive over a bump or dip there is a noise from the, rear off-side of the car, as if a small heavy package in the load area has bounced up a little and landed again, due of course to the car having driven over the poor road surface. The vehicle is of course void of any such package and every thing appears secure. Any Ideas?
Thanks-Dil

It's the plastic and metal pieces that you will find in both the back door and the "frame", holding one to the other. The wear over time. In theory, you could adjust them and you will get rid of the noise for a while, but it will come back. The only solution is to spend a few quid replacing both of them.

To adjust fit the one to the back door tightly and the other one loosely and then shut the door, Then open the door slowly making sure than you hold the piece that attaches to the frame in position. Then secure this piece tightly.

I did this to my truck and the noise disappeared!

Cheers

These are the bits that I am talking about, but they must be new to get rid of the noise!

Jesus- It's done!....removed screws from plastice housing to door frame, greased and replaced them, following the plate locating procedure, as you described...the noise has dissapeared. If the noise re-appears I'll replace with new parts.

I'm glad I asked first, I nearly ended up replacing the suspension coil spring and damper.

Thanks again - Dil

Re: noise diagnosis ?

Had horrible 'squeak' from rear of my G and had visions of expensive suspension issues. Thought I'd check GWOA for info and found post about rear door - did the trick of loosening plastic guide on rear door frame, shutting door and then tightening plastic in new position - magic! Squeak banished! Big vote of thanks to GWOA and to Mortinson!!
