Illuminated switches
The illuminated switches (rear wiper, heated rear window etc.) don't seem very bright, is this just one of those things or could there be bulbs out?
I have removed the switches but I can't see any way of either checking the bulbs or changing them, in fact I can't find any way of accessing them.
Is this possible, can anyone tell me?
Colin
The bulbs are inside the switches and they can't be replaced in theory. Only solution according to MB is to replace the affected switch and they cost, for the W463, some £ 30 each.
In practice, they can be replaced but only if you have the skills of a swiss watchmaker. Here you will find the instructions on how to do it, but they are in German. I have dismantled and old switch and have tried to put it together with no success so far. Good luck to you.
Cheers
Absolutely right, my brain was so busy trying to figure out how to put the switch together that I forgot to include the link:

The good news is that I managed to dismantle and assemble two switches yesterday evening by cheating! I used superglue to glue the metal bits to the body of the switch and the bearing balls to the springs and then it´s child's play.
Tomorrow I'll see if I can order a couple of bulbs!
Cheers
I have dismantled the switches and successfully reasembled but have not sourced a new bulb . Ley me know if you can find them. I think you would need a steady hand soldering the new one in though
It is possible, with a well skilled auto electrician who also has electronic skills, to wire in a "diode" i think thats the term ,to the panel elec system that boosts the ampage to the dash lights, I think it goes in behind the fitted dimmer switch on the panel, I will contact the man that does this little cheat for me and see if he will allow me to publish the details.

Roly,
I don't think that you need any soldering. You just have to "tie" the wires to the contacts.
However, I am in a deadlock. I have tried MB for source of the electric bulbs but the part number in the EPC (N 072601012230) is wrong, corresponding to the OSRAM reference 2721. The bulb actually needed is defined as "Miniature Bulb 12 volt Tube wire ends. Diameter of Glass 5mm. Length of Glass 12mm". Here is a picture:

I have found a place where they sell exactly the same bulb (www.uklightbulbs.co.uk ) , but it's only a 6.3 volt (no good). I have tried also http://www.osram.com but no luck either.
Can somebody help?????
Regards,
you know what, just turn the interior light on to find the switch you want, alot less hassle and cheaper.
Just in case, a picture of the bulb:

These globes are used in many vehicles to illuminate the switches. I have a friend who owns a Peugeot parts business here in Australia and sells these globes. I asked him for his source of globes and he advised that he bought them at Dick Smiths (which is a large electronics retailer like Tandy/RadioShack) - although he said that he had to buy in lots of 100.
If you can't source locally in smaller numbers you can buy them directly from him at eai.net.au Email stephen@eai.net.au
If you would prefer you can just PM me and I will buy you a stock and send them off.

Guys,
I finally got the bulbs from a friend in Spain who says that thay can be sourced from Wurtz. However, the wires must be extended to reach the connectors inside the switch. I soldiered some copper wire to this effect.
I attach some pictures of a dismantled switch.
Cheers,
That sounds a nightmare Jesus!
I think I'll just leave well alone in that case!
The switches work okay but there is only a faint glow from them.
I think that you forgot to include a link?
Thanks very much for your help and for taking the time to investigate one of your own switches.
Regards
Colin
