I need a new battery and checking my friends 300GD noticed he has a genuine Mercedes one whereas mine is not. His Merc battery has A001 541 8201 printed on top. I checked with the Mercedes dealer and the cost is 322 pounds for a 125 ah battery. I can get an 064 battery, apparentely the same as a Transit, which I am told is the one for the 300GD for about 85 pounds.

Any one any views on the best one to get?

Re: 300GD Battery

Hi the battery by MB part number can be bought from Varta as a TN6 at around GBP 200 or there is a NATO one around at the same sort of money.. grey or black....rectangular shape that latches into the tray with the proper retainer.other batteries require blocking out to fit ...an MOT failure if the battery is not secure in the tray.....

Re: 300GD Battery

Hi Fixwin thanks for the reply. The MB one my friend has is square and fits the tray. Does the Varta come in the same size? It seems to me that as the MB battery is twice the size of the cheap one I was looking at that it must have more capacity. I think some of the extra price of the MB one is due to the name but it certainly looks the business looking at the size of it. Cost is a concern but will prefer to pay more for a really good battery.

The 064 battery will not have the same capacity as the square one, that's why it's cheaper. The sq one is good if you need the capacity for fridge or whatever.
