1996 290GD, does any other engine fit?
The I-5 engine blew and I have no access to parts here in Panama. Has anyone retrofit a Toyota diesel engine to a GD? Lots of old Landcruisers here, and new ones as well. Rexton cars here use an I-5 that looks very similar but don't have deep pockets and would hate to get the engine torn apart and find that the parts are not compatible.
If I can't find another engine, anyone want a parts car shipped from Panama? :)
I take it is a left hand drive.
Hi the same engine is fitted to the Mercedes 190D/250D cars and the 210D and 310D vans just change the items over from your old engine that are G wagon only....
The best replacement would be a OM602D5A from a W124 or a W202 E250 or C250 Turbodiesel, same block as yours but with a very torquey 125 HP output. SSanyong/Daewoo 2.9 litre diesel engines, either in naturally aspirated or turbodiesel fashion are basically the same engine as originally fitted to your G and are extremely good value.
Anything but parting with your G. It's an order!
rkon, why you are so sure your engine is caput? If it is military 1996 vehicle it is possible low mileage. You probably have some certain problem with your 290gd 1.000.000 miles engine.
That's correct.
