This beauty shown here is the protoype of the GWagen redesigned by the Swiss designer Luigi Colani. The truck has resurfaced in Spain where it is apparently for sale for some ? 20.000.

In addition to the Colani design, the car was converted by AMG in the eighties to V8 5,6 litre power, with a new engine similar to that contemporarily fitted to the W126 560 SE/SEC, with 300 HP and just over 80,000 kms.

Interested parties should contact the US 4x4 consultant, Mr Harald Pietschmann (adventure@4x4abc.com)> http://www.4x4abc.com

Fredecosse,

I must totally agree with you regarding the G up on top.
THAT is NOT a thing of beauty, more a disgrace to the G!
Sorry Jesus, this is the first time I have disagreed with you. Maybe you had a hangover that day?

Martin.

I can't help but feel that the designer of the new Land Rover Discovery may have used the "Colani G" as his inspiration. What other explanation could there be for what Solihull has produced this time?

WOW.
Reminds me of the Renault Master/Winebago excercise, lots of plastic panels stuck on.

The Le Sharo maybe? Mid-80's Trafic based mini-motorhome, came with 2.2 petrol or 2.1 diesel. Le Sharo Land in the US do a Chrysler 3.8L conversion, which this one is:

Scary ugly, looks like an upside-down landing craft, but many RV'ers love the Le Sharos low profile design and the Renault 2.1 TD engine is almost bulletproof, giving 20mpg where more traditional 35ft big block motor'ed RV's do 6 or 7.

That G - . What is that silver ducktape on the nearside rear quarter? And the Liberace dash - those warning lights remind me of a Lidl battery charger. I particularly enjoyed the way the bonnet hangs off the top of the scuttle to meet the windscreen pillars, obviously all part of the aero package.

Love those artics though, great.

Well done then, Martin.

I think that that G is ugly, which is not to say that it is not utterly interesting.

Only 5 AMGs 5.6 W460 G-Wagens were ever made and this is one of only three in LHD.

And as a Colani it is a one-off.

Just for that I´d buy it on the spot if I had the money and the space....

Cheers

Yeah, but Jesus, it looks like a kit car that somebody knocked up in their back yard. There is a very good reason why the Colani G is rare.. ... and you're looking at it in those pictures

Was Colani really his name, if so very appropriate as it looks like something one would associate with a colon!

I run a design firm and a photo studio....my opinion?
this is horrible!
Even if you try to see it withy 80's glasses.
I doubt you could make it look worse if you tried...
...Lot's of grotesque, utterly tasteless "tuning" going on today also...
interesting is the most flattering adjective one can imagine for this vehicle.

Easy, easy...

This is a product of eighties excess... and should be seen as such.

Some examples of Colani's truck designs:

Re: The Colani G

The trucks aren't so bad. They look like they're a finished article, built as intended. The G just looks like someone had a clear out in the garage and stuck all the bits they found on it (must have a been the garage of a fairly opulent and frivolous residence though, I admit). I'm a great believer in form following function - it's the engineer in me - unfortunatley some designers focus too much on the form and forget what their creations are intended for.

The only value I see in the Colani car is as a donor to rebuild a correct G560, removing virtually every Colani item. It helps that it's begun to rot anyway.
I too like the headlining console and pockets.
And the Recaros.
Absolutely nothing else.
Mick, did Colani beat you to it with the KTM-orange truck above? Love the wipers.
Eddie.

As much as I like design that stands out, this is about as tasteless as it gets. Boyracer engineering and Tupperware styling for those whose suits are too shiny. If that's you, I know one that's for sale in Holland...

Re: The Colani G

I'm new to G's, I don't have one at the moment but plan to in the near future, but please tell me this is a joke......

I mean this is truly hideous, from the disguisting body kit to the ugly interior and what is going on with that bent merc badge?
