starter motor

300 GDL 1989. 5 cyl diesel...the starter motor is not turning the flywheel. it just sends out a humming noise...it's been diagnosed as having a faulty bendix. if i keep trying to start then it does so eventuallyt but only after 6 or 7 tries what is the best way of getting it sorted. thanks dil

Hi its not a faulty "Bendix"... a sticking solenoid... the motor is spinning but the solenoid is not pulling the "bendix" to engage the flywheel ring.... or you have teeth missing off the flywheel ring..try rocking the vehicle backwards and forwards in first gear...this will move the flywheel to another position ..then try the starter.....
