non merc engine swaps?
Ive been on the hunt for the last while for an auto td musso to rob the engine box out of for the black edition, they seem to be thin on the ground and any that have come up seem to be a bit on the pricey side...
was offered a 3.1 tdi auto trooper thats had a light roll for very little money
anyone ever seen one or any other non merc td swapped into a rhd 460?
the only place i can see an issue is the steering shaft with the turbo, any thoughts??
Seen a BMW 4.4 v8 in a g, but as I know you are a diesel lover I only know of a 300 tdi in a g wagen, which also happens to have unimog axles, isuzu 3.1 is good, avoid the cat 3.0 as it problematic. Anyway with your know how it can be done, I doubt anyone on here can help you except dirtydiesel who has the unimog g.
There was a G for sale a while back with a BMW 525tds engine and one more recently with a rover 3.5 V8. Any engine swap is going to cause problems so you might as well put the one you want in, especially with your know-how. Like PP says, Isuzu 3.1's are good although a friend had one that the head gasket went on that cost him a lot of money to put right. Keep us posted.
mick, just stick a 320 multi valave petrol in it  and take pp along with you if you are going through rivers in it  . i have seen a few G320's in action and i was shocked
plenty to find, great power output and relatively easy for you to do. [bet you could get it up and running in a few hours :P ]
this is my next project for sure 8)
I want to build offroad trophy w460. If G diesel, than the best with less electronics is imho OM606 300td ~177zs. But I dunno how match it will cost and how easy I can put it in w460... :)

There's a chap in NI who's done that and LPG'd it. I think Fixwin knows him.
Myself and my brother have had a few Omega diesels and Bm TDS's, great engine but omega is trouble with the Auto, its the weak link, in fact have an Omega auto with the gearbox slipping, very cheap if you are interested great engine. Bm auto I think is a different gearbox and possibly stronger, slightly more power in the BM also 143 as opposed to 130 in the Omega, turbo different. In Manual form they are both great!

I like the sound of this conversion, you could have hit on a winning formula for 460's and 463's.
The 3.1 is something like 170bhp standard isn't it?
Be very interested to follow this. :)

M the D, might be worth asking this chap about his conversion.....

I have PM'd you a number of somebody who has done it before. This is what I will probably fit into my 463 if I can't change the diff ratio's.
Mick if you don't take the car, I would be interested.
have seen that yellow one with the bmw v8 in it...was offered a bmw 740 a while ago...very nearly bought it for the v8 for the orange one!!
Im not going to put anything in it that will cost as much as a sprinter engine, thats a bit pointless! that kind of rules out 300tdis and p38 rr aka bmw 525's...but maybe not omega 2.5td..all of which have the same engine and anything that Im going to put into it will have to have an auto thats matched to it and not just cobbled to the the standard auto thats in there now!
Ive had both 3.1 and 3.0 troopers before..less said about the 3.0 the better, I wouldnt even consider this only the this complete auto 3.1 can be had for very very small money, and when the ic pumps tweaked and put the boost up a bit they go quite well!
