hayo im from scotland im 18 and a new member i have just got myself a 1988 mercedes benz g wagon lonw wheel base but shes in a real mess the last owner abused her then let her rot so i hope to fix her but i need advice and help
welcome to the forum, which engine do you have the petrol 280 or the diesel? Lots of help and advice in the different sections
how have you managed to get insurance, I tried insuring my 18 year old on my car was told no chance!
its not on the road it failed its mot horribly and i couldent insure it at all im over £1400 for my badly beatin 1.4 golf lol im not expecting to get my g wagon on the road for several years
I'm hoping that after he's been driving for a year that my insurance company will say yes, you might be in the same situation, after a year the 100% new driver loading they place on new policy's comes off.
i wish i will need to wate 5 years untill i will be insurable for my g wagon as i have a writeoff to my name sadly
YAY!!! finally there is somebody here younger than me!! Got my first G (1987 300GD) last year and cost me £1.8k to insure; but the 463 300GD that i have now only costs me €503 to insure... GOOD!!
i got a 300GD but it needs a lot of work which is good cos by the time i get it road worthy i might be able ti insure her lol

and tollerate the performance... I'm 30 but I still need my hot hatch fix....prefer the for the most part though.

i will do if im not at work tomorrow but its bad it needs doors and i dont know how good or bad the floor is as i dont have space in the shed to fit the g wagon in (sotreing stuff in the shed for a friend) so she has to sit outside and in scotland you cant do much with it in the rain sadly

while you are at it fit more appropriate engine too if funds permit. do a search here and you will find lots of write ups.

fix it, don't camouflage it!
oh trust me it will be fixed theres no point in starting if your not going to put in 100%
if you can get replacement doors go that route and have new panels for the rear 3/4 welded in then lots of paint and waxoyl. Check the drain holes in the replacement doors and waxoyl the insides, lots to do good luck

Ok organise a list of things that need doing and give them priorities, if you are not using the car on road you can concentrate on none MOT stuff or if the weather is bad indoor work. Don't rush to buy doors, take your time they do come up on the forum regularly and I am sure the readers of this post will keep their eyes out as well. A slightly left field option would be to create a Lwb pick up. There are plenty photos of swb pickups in the photo gallery so you can see the basic design, this would reduce overall weight as well as removing the need for doors. Its a lot of work but probably no more than you have set yourself any way. :?: Tyreman on this forum is an expert on such adaptations.
nice but id like to keep it as a 5 door as it will eventually be used as the family vehicle and i like the list idea so i will get started on that today

ok well its taken a long time but i've got her stripped out and shes going up to my mates to get the floor welded back togeather when hes got time
i had to wait for him to get out of hospital so it set back my project but hay not a big problem
