I am trying to decide between two different sizes?

31 10.5 15
pro no extra strain on the already underpowered engine.

32 11.5 15
pro less rpm @ 120km/h (now it revs up to almost 4000rpm@120 km/h)

what do you guys think?
thanks in advance...

G

31" otherwise you will not be able to hold speed going up hill. The engine will rev to 5000

Yeah, Roly is right, on that 31" is about right.

bigger tires zap the torque unless you change the gear ratios...

i am fitting 35" soon but will be doing the diffs too as adviced by harald pitchmann on pointed three.

roly is right. as for tire brand bfg's or cooper stt's

I would stick with the 31’s for exactly the reasons stated above. Unless you have a very specific requirement for larger tyres I.E. rock crawling, driving across peat bog’s and…………………um well that’s about it, there’s really no upside :)

It’s not just the power/torque issue. You add stress to wheel bearings and other suspension components, reduce braking efficiency, mess up on road handling, increase fuel consumption. No big deal if you don’t intend to use the vehicle for it’s intended purpose, or to just mess about playing at off roading.

From what you’ve stated in your other posts I don’t think that’s you or your intended use :)

BTW amazing find your G

Just to throw a spanner into the works.

A 33/10.50x15 BFG MUD T/A will also go on without a width difficulty and look good and go well offroad. But see previous posts re downside to this.

Mike

PS I have them on my little 280 for the farm.

Well I have two friends with G's...they are both SWB 461's with 88hp 617 engines (manual). One has 235/85/16 BFG mud and the other 255/85/16 BFG mud.
Those are 32 an 33 inch respectively. They go ok on their cars?
If those steel wheels fit on my 463, I want to try those sizes an feel what it does...
I terrain the diffs are a little bit to close to the ground for my taste and the running boards hit early.
I was hoping to get away with a 40mm suspension rize and 32 or 33 inch tires.
33 being what i wanted and 32 a compromise for not hurting the engine too much.

Right well lifting the body with Spacers gets the running boards out of the mud but dosen't do much for your axle clearence. 2" lift via the springs does the same.
33" tyres get the clearence you require without raising the C of G too much.
Maybe start there with the 255/85x16 tyres and see how you go...........

Seems like you’ve got the perfect opportunity to try them before you commit. I’d be interested to hear how it performs. As I said I have a feeling that despite the very small increase in standard tyre size low range 2nd in mine feels a little long, but as yours is an auto this may not apply. I do have admit that from some angles it does look a little under tyred.

Re. your comments about the diffs. That is something of an optical illusion when a G sits next to say a Defender. Lifts, etc do nothing for that, it’s purely down to wheel/tyre size. Clearance to the sill’s is an issue on G’s though. Having said that it’s never bothered me.

Although I had a 40mm lift on my 460 which worked very well I’ve always worried about creating vibrations on my 463 so have left it std. Again I’d be interested in your results but yours has done significantly fewer km’s when compared to mine.

I have my 113 HP shod with 235/85R16 (32") BFG MTs and I am very pleased with them. But then mine is a manual and a SWB (200 kilos less). I wouldn't fit anything bigger, though.
