Hi Guys; after much prevarication I have dived into the deep-pool of G Wagon ownership after spending the last 10 years with a 5.2 litre V8 Jeep Grand Cherokee (both initially in Turkey and for the last 10 months in the UK).

I have purchased a fellow forum members 1987 280 GE A4 LWB 460 and to be honest at this stage I am still in shock  The transition from all-singing comfort to the all-singing technical prowess of the G has left me wondering whether I did the right thing.

Still with a bit of TLC and a tune-up hopefully my buyers-remorse will pass I and I can get down to seeing what the 460 can do off-road. The G is booked into the G Centre, Malvern for an initial service (yes I know but I am not that competent with the old spanners) and to see what, if anything, we can do to sort its electrical gremlins.

Then with new front tyres and a stainless exhaust we should be ready to go :D

Hello Ian!!

Welcome to the club! You have got a very nice car!! I don't think I have seen you and your G around before; I think a few other Gs live in the area as well. At least 3 I can think of...

I am in Loughborough at the moment but I hope I could go back to ciren later this week, much depends on how fast the packing up process is :-(

Would you like to meet up for a coffee later in this summer? It would be fantastic!

Best wishes

Pok

Ooo! Forgot to mention...

I hope you will get used to your G very quickly! It didn't take me that long to get used to it probably because my car before the G was a suzuki SJ, it was a thousand times harder to drive than the G!

Looks like a tidy 460. Is that a 'panoramic' sunroof I see?

Not in the rag-trade guys: (biomass) power generation.

The sun-roof would be great if it worked. The rear doesn't work at all and the front will open but not close:just one of the things to try and cure! I think it may be a Webasto after-market item so if the G centre can't diagnose the problem I may try a Webasto dealer. Failing that it will stay shut :)

Hi and welcome! Noticed your last cars. Did you know that you can get a V8 5 ltr, RHD in a G?

Just thought I would let you know once you have got used to your first G and fancy some more 'spice'!

Hi and welcome to G ownership!

Sav - My family used to be in the rag trade and used to use my first G to transport goods round all the time.

I'm trying to convince mine to get one - would be great in those harsh Romanian winters.
