Hi all.

Abit about my self..

I'v been off roading now for 3 years and have enjoyed every minute of it, good or bad "not so much the bad" but hey its all part of the fun.

At the moment I have a Vauxhall Frontera which I converted from the 2.3TD to a 3.1TD as the 2.3 was lacking in the power department.

Now i feel its time for a change. The frontera is just not suited for the off roading that i'm doing as it some times lets me down as i come to tricky obstacles.

I had my mind set on buying a swb Toyota Landcruiser. I grow up around them as a kid when i lived in Africa and some of my happiest child hood memories were camping out in the wild with family and friend and the FJ55 curiser. As you may know the Landcruiser in a popular 4x4 in Africa and having experience with them and know how rugged the are, my mind was set owning one day.

Now this bring me to why I am here. while searching for a Landcruiser i stumbled a cross a G wagon. I had heard story about them in the past, about how good they are off road and began doing abit research. Well i can say I'm impressed and i now "have to get me one of these"

But I will, some day get a landcruiser...

Thanks for reading, I look forward to sharing my knowledge and experiences with you all.

ATB Jerry.

Welcome to the site Jerry. The Toyota is a great machine, but the G wins because it has character. Good luck with the search.

Ditto an the above.

Are you a 'FOG' member - come across them on the Green Lane Forums. My initial thought about the Frontera was 'Off Road? no..' BUT that was totally change when I saw one one a GLASS trip! My Apologies

Hi Welcome. I also grew up in Africa and also used land cruisers in the army . Some machine . But I prefer the G-WAGEn more . Its extremely the luxury and the very tuff.

Its a merc thats build like a merc drives like a merc but handles the tuff like a land cruiser . The BEST of All worlds If gwagens werent so expensive you will see more of them in africa and they will have also brought out a "BAKKIE" pick up model in Africa . Look how long those old 280, 300, 350, 420 500 SE's last in Africa and middel east . They are loved for reliability and some places where they drive those old merc cars most modernday yuppy 4*4 wont even go .

Go for GWAGEn

Welcome Jerry,

I've had Land Rovers most of my life but Gs are more impressive in every department.

A few days ago I got my tractor (with 3 diff locks) well stuck in a stream with 2 wheels under water and the front embedded in the muddy bank. My G pulled it out without even trying.

Re: Noob, about me.

Thanks for the welcome guys.

Am still looking for a G but TBH i don't know which engine to go for, don't really know much about merc engine so my knowledge about them is to say a little slim. Any advice, pointers in the right direction would be grate.

Id just like to share this video i found.
I went to the same place last year "in my frontera" and did not get no were near were the G got.
If you look 7sec in to the vid, that's as fare as i made it. But in all fairness i was having trouble with my Auto locking Hubs.
