Diesel Fungus!
I think I have growth of some type of Diesel Fungus that is blocking up my fuel strainer, I'm sure there must be a chemical way of treating it, beleive it is very common in boats? Anyone know of a such a product?
No!!! once you have it.. you have to purge the system...there are additives to prevent it.....Wynnes do an anti fungi product..
famous phil had same problem see following thread http://www.gwoa.co.uk/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=7547 half way down .hope you cure it :)
I'm very curious about how you managed to get plant life in your tank in the first place. For that to happen you need to have diesel and water in your tank for quite some time. With the fuel consumption of our cars the refresh rate is way too high for stuff to grow in your tank (mine is emptied & refilled at least once a week). It's a common problem on boats (large tanks, lots of condensation, little use) and that's where you'll find the additives you're looking for. Some kill and dissolve the bacteria that produce sludge, others are preventative. The dieselbacteria-problem seems to have worsened due to an increased percentage of bio-elements that fuel manufacturers now have to put into their diesel.
I really want info on how to remove the 1st filter that is located in the tank, or as Mercedes call it the "Strainer", no mention of it in factory manuals, few people need to remove it, people often confuse with the Tank Sender , but I mean the Strainer on the bittom of the tank. Really don't want to buy a new tank!
