Hi there,
I've got a manual 230 GE Wagon and want to change the gearbox oils.

In the maunal it says to use automatic transmission fluid which is very thin, is this correct? If not can you tell me which viscocity is best.

Also is the low box and high box all together or seperate? it's not that obvious to me.

Thanks very much

Viki

If you are doing the jobs yourself, double check you can loosen filler plugs before removing drain plugs, just in case! 14 or 17mm, hex head ( Allen key)Also essential to get an oil gun from aggricultral type outfit.

Re: transmission oils

Hi, sorry to disagree with Fixwin but it should be EP 80w85 in the transfer box. It's extreme pressure and will work better in there than Hypoid which will be a bit thick.
There are now oils available from Morris and Millers that will satisfy GL4 (EP) and GL5 (hypoid).

hi SRI!! I quoted from the original MB service directive (circa 1978) and did not take into account modern oils
