no oil pressure after oil change
Hi all
After changing oil (250GD) (engine was sitting for a long time with no oil in it-pump dry?), when started, yes it has plenty of oil, it doesn't seem to be sucking the oil to produce pressure. After removing filter housing top it's still dry in there, I then filled the filter housing to try and prime it but no luck. Any suggestions?
Thanks Scott
Hi you probably need to prime the "galleries" with a pump type oil can... normally done by removing the oil pressure switch and pumping the oil to the upper side of the oil pump to get rid of the airlock.....after doing this if you turn the engine over with the starter oil should spurt from the pressure switch port... screw the switch back in at the same time....
Hi did you fit a new oil filter? and the correct one!! the two small "o" rings can cause oil pressure problems and you say the oil fillter bowl is empty.which could be an indication that the oil pump is still sucking air....
Hi yes they are with the filter cartridge plus a big one for the top of the filter chamber..the OM 617 filter as fitted to the car is different to the G wagon which is longer.I am not familiar with the OM 602 engine filters! car or G'wagen but have an ETL manufacturer part number EOF-011 for the G'wagen which is part metal with a cardboard section at the bottom suitable for the OM 602-930 and 932 model engines
t Of course I'm afraid to start it now, just hope nothing has been damaged at this stage.
How about disconnecting the fuel line and even remove injectors/glowplugs so that you can turn it over on the starter without this worry?
Hi Scott reading your various posts...why was it stored without oil and for how long....I have experience of oil gelling in the sump pan in hot climates ..on a normal drain you never get it all out...it turns to a tarlike consistency which does not blend or emulsify with new oil...a flushing oil sometimes does the trick but removal of the sump pan is a more positive way to go...if the galleries are blocked its back to the pressure blow out again...running it could lead to main and bigend bearing metal picking up on the crankshaft...then its a complete strip down......
Thank you! I've done that, pressurised oil into switch hole, about 3 litres worth to make sure it got every where, still no oil pressure! I'm stumped, it was working perfectly before. It's not the oil pressure switch. With the switch out, it doesn't pump oil. Is there a one way valve somewhere? When I open the oil filter housing, it is almost empty, is this normal? Any ideas? This has me worried! Cheers Scott
