Just got a price from Merc for front and rear axle longitudinal and transverse control arm bushes. £386.40+VAT for 20no bushes in total. Does anyone know if there are non merc parts available and if they're worth bothering with? I'm hoping this will go some way to resolving my stability issues as previosuly posted.

There are previous posts on this subject.....I think you may be trying to crack a nut with 7lb hammer!!! check the rear anti roll bar bushes ..they seem to wear earlier than the others.....also the front axle attachment bolts..use a pry bar....the DOT MOT centre in Northern Ireland would not have issued a certificate if the bushes showed any signs of decay ......

Fair enough. The worst play was at the rear (as per pic in the other post). We'll adopt a more logical approach rather than blitz it. We didn't think it would be that expensive to do the lot so figured may as well but not gonna chuck £400 at it unnecessarily. Thanks

Think it was all done from a diagram that merc sent to my garage. Will let you know though. It's going in on wednesday to have the tailpipe sorted and they're going to do a bit more of a thorough investigation at the same time. Good to know though, thanks for the offer. Tom

Re: control arm bushes

I had to replace my rear anti roll bar bushes to pass a MOT and really did not notice any difference in stability afterwards. Burning out the old bushes was fun for a novice! I am sure a MOT test (especially a NI one) would have picked up on worn bushes.

However new bilstien gas shocks did improve the handling and ride no end.

If you can drive another similar G of the same vintage to give a comparison you will have an idea of the scale of the problem.
