Hi, am looking at G w/617 931 replacement engine in 300GD (ca97 in late 80s vehicle)..grateful of any general comments re 617 engine and why cant seem to identify what vehicle the replacement engine came from thanks

Hi the OM 617-931 is the standard 5 cyl diesel fitted to the G wagen.if you post your Vin number and engine serial number it can be verified as original fit..or not..

Hi the original engine serial number was 61793120018692..the current engine looks to be for a car application which may not have the correct sump pan for mudplugging or the snorkel alternator...the OM603 is 6 cylinder and does not transplant easily..... a nice spec G' built in 1988 and with the extra seats.....
