Hi mates,
today on the way to top of a mountain suddenly I saw steam from the engine bay and the temp was going very fast near to 120 C! I open the bonnet and I found that the water line that goes from the engine (OM 602.983) to the diesel heating system was somewhere leaking. When I tried to change the fault tube I found that the inlet from this system was broken!! I bypassed the system and I returned immidiatelly back, as I was 200 km away from home. Since I am back I am trying to find the part number for the merc dealer but in vain. Any help is welcomed.
Many thanks in advance
Angelos

Re: Diesel heating system

You did very well to save the engine. If you had not noticed, the engine would have seized very quickly. The bypass of the preheater is perfectly ok and will have no bad effect on the engine. It heats the diesel to give better compustion in the cold. No problem as a temporary measure. Just replace the preheater and you are back in business.

I changed today the bypass with a fresh - new tube because I need time to find the part number as the local merc dealer cannot (!!!!) find it.
