hi

has anyone tried to upgrade the manual windows on a w460? Did any on the newer 460's come with electric windows? There a couple of oem aftermarket kits available on the web, no idea what they're like

Try them,

They are, an, after market kit compny, with a comprehensive listing. The kits will not be as robust as the Mercedes system, but with well lubricated glass channels and rails it is sufficient enough.

Re: electric window upgrade

I asked the local stealer's about electric regulators form a model with electric windows, I think I bough the G for less than the price of the two regs!!
used to have a G with an aftermarket kit on and it worked fine, I just don't like having the spindles (the bit the handle goes on) still there sticking out, albeit covered by blanks included in most uni-fit kits.

Do you retain the window mechanism if you are fiting an aftermarket kit? Excuse my mechanical ignorance my field is construction etc.

Re: electric window upgrade

Tnx for the info. After a little research it appears there are two approaches.
1: retain the original mechanism and direct connect to the spindle from the inside.
2: replace the entire mechanism

Advantage with 2 is it removes the need to have the knob sticking out thru the door card, is faster, less strain and I already have a dodgy worm cable which wud need to be first replaced. I imagine both approaches wud requir a similar amount of effort and time.

Will probably go with 2. Cost is about €380 for all 4 windows.

Anyone know how hard it is to access the mechanism?

think once you've remove'd the door cards you'll then see some 6mm bolts , 10mm spanner , not a hard job to remove , you should be able to
follow the worm cable and its suports

Re: electric window upgrade

Im looking at this kit http://www.a1electric.com/el1000.htm

Its a complete replacement for the original mechanism, which i think is a better approach rather than the conventional upgrade route. ie this kit http://www.in-car-stuff.com/shop/electric-window-conversion-windows-p-15...

Will probably look to purchase in the next week or so. The price is $200, with a bit of looking around could probably find it cheaper
