G Transmission is totally Seized
Auto Gear Lever has know totally seized! and its being picked up by AA to go to Klasse of Fulham for a inspection and B service after 65,000 miles...I am fearful of he bill! Will let you know the outcome...
Ferdi
its got to be the cable, doubt it will be to expensive.
W= Winter
S= Summer
Thanks- but what does it actually do? And why havent i seen this on any other G?!
Sorry Ferdi, I was a little TOO succinct!!
Its a setting on auto boxes to allow for 2nd gear start off in Winter....smoother changes etc. Summer not so important, as there (In theory) should always be traction.
Pretty sure thats it. Switch on a couple of my mercs over the years ....tho' I too haven't seen it on a G. perhaps the plate is generic and the switch goes nowhere.
belt damper takes up slack, keeps it tight
Yes but I don't expect that the W & S switch is connected on the G. Was the replacement gear selector on the gearstick or gear box. Why did they alter the trim around the gear stick?
Pleased that it is going again
g wagen takes off in second gear anyway, unless you hold it in first so the switch would be useless, I have only managed to get mine in first, pulling a trailer on kickdown up a hill
Hi All, news just in...
Total Bill including B service was £1,029.
Biggest hit was the £251 for a gearshift selector housing and 2 hours of labour to fit it.
Apparently it also needed V-belt replacement and V belt dampers (whatever the hell that is?!)
Only downside is that my new gear housing has a strange W and S switch on it that seems to do nothing? I assume this was not a exact G part as such?
Overall, service was efficient and professional as usual, so happy to recco. MB had quotes £800 just for B service so sure this came in much cheaper.
Cheers,
Ferdi
