Wise Brethren,
Are there any known problems/issues regarding transfer-case and gearbox as fitted on post-2004 G500?
Many thanks

The Hi-Low engagement electric motor.

Just use it periodically or it will get arthritic.

Same happens to my W163.

Also, do not wade (water more than 50cm deep?) with your automatic transmission without installing an aftermarket breather. One member here found out the "factory" ventilation on his 2006 5-speed auto wasn't that effective at keeping water out. Expensive replacement ensued...

Any other (internal) mechanical frailties... :?:

Please point me in the right direction regarding breather function and aftermarket replacements.

I do use Hi - Lo regularly. Even to play on gravel. Your advice is good.
It is the anti-spin electronics that ruin the fun. Mind you, I do appreciate the protection they offer. It would be interesting if one could have the facility of switching them off at will.

I think that the internals are the same as the early G500s . It is only the electronics that are different. Obviously the 7 speed is different

In my car, the gearbox ventilates high up in the engine compartment - i.w.o. of the bulhead, aft of the airfilter. Next to the transfer case ventilation. As far as I can make out this is an MB arrangement and it appears to be located out of "water ingress" harm.
The Lord, and by divine extension MB, moves in mysterious ways...

Anakreon, are there about 3 downturned pipes there? On my 300GE I observe a number of vent pipes ending in the engine compartment, but I traced them back to the differentials and transfer case, not the transmission (last time I checked was a long while ago).
