please does any one know why my 460 gd heat plugs keep failing ?about three months ago starting became lumpy to say the least so i pulled out the heater plugs and found three of them not working ,these i swaped for some good ones out of another engine these worked for another 3or 4 weeks untill it was starting on two cylinders again .so i decided to buy 5 brand new bosh plugs from our local factors , all was well untill yesterday ,it sounds as if one is of again ,i think i have read somwhere that carbon deposits can shorten there life is this true ?when ive changed plugs before they last at least a year .
TIP its much easier to remove the injector pipes before to acces plugs

Hi is the timer in the heater plug relay (black box inside nearside wing next to rpm transducer) holding them on longer than it should..... 5/10 seconds on each cycle......orange light in the instrument cluster is wired in series.and should be out before you turn the key to start the engine.......

Premature heater plugs failing can be due to a build up of carbon. This has to be reamed out and then install the new heater plugs.

thanks Rakesh it started alright again this morning so maybe battery was just a bit low or somthing and it has been very cold at night , but if i do end up needing replacment plugs how do you surgest reaming out carbon deposits ,scrapping about with a drill bit? or somthing softer thanks again jez
