300GD power increase
Hello, I'm no boy racer but I was wondering if it was possible to turbocharge my ever so sedate 5 cylinder weasel? I was making an educated guess that there was a turboed version of this engine so I could just pinch all the exciting bits and sellotape them on to mine. Advice or thoughts much appreciated.
Vehicle is a 1982 300GD auto and it's in no hurry to get anywhere.
hi,
take a look at this recent post

or try a quick search as it is something that has been asked a few times.
basically you are probably better off to buy a trashed turbo'd sedan but with a good engine and do a transplant.
If your existing engine is in good shape it can be set up to perform better than a manual 300gd!!! without a turbo...talk to "buckalec" this forum he has one on Ebay at the moment...if the engine shows signs of back preesure then it is a total waste of time and money fitting a turbo.....
keep it well serviced, take the fan off(keep it running nice & warm) & put on 750x16 tyres, the ecconomy will be better, the gearing too !! & cane the motor, to get it to rev freely..it will take it
Hi,I have a 1989 300GD Automatic. Can anyone give me any advice on how to increase the power it runs very slow at times Thanks

A naturally aspirated diesel Mercedes whose basic design dates from the 70s?
The only chip in that G is that of the ipod of one of the occupants!

Black Pete,
you have 2 engines OM 602, 290gdt which do they accept chip tuning. Why do you try with the old 300D?
Angelos

Cheers for that. It seems to go ok and it's quiet enough, no nasty noises, although losing a bit of coolant somewhere. It's due a service soon so what I'll do is strip a few bits off and have a good poke around. If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
I don't really want to go down the route of winding up the fuelling etc, was just thinking of general bolt on later model things... hence the bunch of lights and stuff I'm selling on fleabay at the moment which don't just bolt on.
The engine does seem very unstressed and even quite happy hauling a this from Wiltshire to Hampshire:
I just think it needs more balls. Not much (else I'd just have to get a V8 ) just a bit more.
