The black bumpers and bulbar on my 461 are beginning to look tatty, and could do with a paint. Can anybody advise on the correct paint code please?

I wish it was that simple.

Maybe this is more helpful (and I'm glad you don't have any photos of me!)

It's for a 460 but I think the shade of black (grey) might be the same?

Howard, I would suggest visiting a paint mixer at the paint suppliers or factors, they have a big swatch of paint colours to match from and can mix you the same colour or close enough.

They can prepare this in an aerosol or for the spray can.

Re: paint code

Complex .. but satin graphite black.. below is 1988 numbers.. but sun fading will make this more complex; compare to colour under number plate or similar to get better match. The supplier will not be able to show you what the MB codes look like; they just punch in a number and the computor/mix volume does the rest but you can buy 1/4 litre samples for £15 a shot... the MB code I used had to be made from expensive paint so it was about £70/litre instead of £30/litre... seems to paint a little better but not sure it is worth twice the cost.

Ask for Satin. You can get Satin or Matt in 2 pack by 75% or 50% added but it is not as sealed as gloss so rust will break out easier

"Tiefdunkelgrau" = low dark grey = MB 7167 = very close to RAL9011 (Graphite Black) and used on bumpers and grill on 1988. Black with hint of grey in colour. Use Satin in thin coats for right finish.

I have photos of the 2 codes and the OEM finish..but really hard to tell and the camera most definitely lies! At the end of the day as long as it is close and consistent you will struggle to tell unless you find unused 463 to park beside..

.. and now to repaint bumpers from RAL9011 to MB 7167 .. that and the wheel arches are the last job in a 2 year refresh!

Howard Green,

I recommend you look over Harald Pietschmann's website concerning Mercedes-Benz Geländewagen 463 color codes for further information.

460 color codes: http://4x4abc.com/G-Class/460color1.html

463 color codes. http://4x4abc.com/G-Class/463color.html
