Engine Upgrade which vehicle to go for etc......
Hello Everyone,
I am after a LWB pref diesel (or ending up a diesel with engine change) and would like to know the best donor vehicle to buy as i seem to remember when i had my SWB 460 petrol there were some issues with axle drive ratios etc to be taken into consideration, so before i buy a vehicle i would just like some guidance with regard to:-
engine type Petrol / Diesel
Manual or Auto if one in particular is better then the other or easier to convert / source parts for (seen some Musso TD Auto for sale as donors possibly)
Many Thanks in advance as i am itching to get back into a G (this time a LWB) and as yet can't afford to run to a 463
You might be surprised - Gs are dropping in price. Some very nice examples of 463s coming up for £5-6,000 and lesser quality examples for cheaper.
The cost you would spend on doing a swap in both money and time needs to be considered.
As for doing a swap you would probably be best off getting an engine out of a sedan. I would try and stick to something which already exists in a G such as a 300TD. There were no factory TD 460s.
Got a white LWb 1989 460 for sale
It was to have been a "keeper"
good mechanical order
good bodywork, if polished up.
We got a 461 instead

and you can run her on SVO, no conversion necessary, unless there is frost, but our last run of winters, pah.
