Hi All,
I own a 1996 model armoured gwagen which weighs 3500 kgs. It is petrol engine , auto transmission 463.
It was kicking to 2nd gear at almost 5000rpm and Mercedes Service Owner here in Nairobi told me problem was the Valve body. It needed replacement. Purchased one from Germany ; after mounting the new one service owner tells me problem is still there..At first he convinced me the problem was from the valve body and now he is confused too.
I would kindly ask members to guide me on what the problem could be.
Thanks in advance.

Does, or will the gear upshift, if you ease off the acclerator pedal?

Refer to my previous comments made by my last PM to you.

Auto. g/boxes start in second gear and not in first, therfore it is your third gear that upshifts at 5,000 rpm. Does kickdown work?

Do the gears limit upshifting if you were to manually upshift? I mean, manually changing the gears from 1st, 2nd and so on.... as you move off in 1st gear, does the gear remain in first?, then as you change up to 2nd, does the gear change up and the stay in 2nd, similarly does this pattern repeat its self throught the rest of froward range?

Whilsht, manually upshifting in the above pattern, does it still take 5,000 rpm for the 3rd gear to upshift?

Look forward to your reply.

Hi Rakesh,
The gear upshifts when i ease the accelerator pedal. I did not try manual upshifting and my car is with the service . Shall i ask them for the same?
Thanks and regards,

You do not mention how or what was the fix?

Would love to know.

Re: s.o.s

Hi Rakesh and all,
I ve changed the valve body which costed 1600 euros out of Germany. The problem was still there after fitting in the valve body.Service centre here called me after a week and told me they ve fixed the problem. Dont know exact details to be frank..Now wiring is the problem and they tell me it is a mass.Abs is not working, a/c stopped working diffrential locks do not function (again wiring problem) The car has been in the garage for last two weeks. As i mentioned earlier on engine seems to be week for the weight of the car and consumption is 3.5 km / lt. It looks like next step will be looking for a strong diesel engine;)
Regards.
