Newbie...1993 6cyl turbo temp and wont stay in fifth gear.
Hello all, my first post :D . I dont actually own a G but have been looking for a while, one has popped up recently with the above issues. The seller seems to think its a linkage problem rather than an internal gearbox fault and the engine temp is a bit high(dont have the figure) but his mechanic says this is nothing to worry about. One more thing, she is smokey after leaving her idle for a while, I presume this is a valve stem seal problem.
Any comments/advice would be helpfull. :?:

Your descriptions are to vague for me to be specific but a few clues to look for.... manual g'box linkeage.. bushes wear on the selector arms..wrong oil will make changes difficult..need to detail the problems...smoky?? black on acceleration..blue on idle when hot... rough and smoky engine when cold....all have different remedies...engine overheating...blocked radiator.stuck thermostat. corroded water pump....also look for...worn wiper spindles..water under front footwell carpets....heater blower motor not working..worn front wheel bearings...decayed or blowing exhaust....and obvious signs of neglect ..rust..etc..offer according to findings...it's a buyer's market!!!!
