bleeding my clutch
1989 300 gd manual. usually a fine machine.
Hello all, my slave cylinder has failed and a helpful garage blead the clutch which got me from Exeter to Cardiff. Clutch failed again this morning and I need to do the same to get the G to the local garage.
Will somebody be kind enough to tell me in basic laymans terms, as I am not mechanical, how to bleed my clutch.
many thanks Vic b.
the hydraulic oil reservoir for the clutch is in the left hand corner of the engine bay at the rear of the air filter.it should be full of DOT 4 + hydraulic oil.once it is full you need to locate the clutch slave cylinder on the top of the gearbox...not easy to locate...there a bleed nipple on the slave cylinder which must be opened with a spanner to let the air out ...rhe best method is to push a piece of tube sized to fit over the nipple and drop into a container with a drop of hydraulic oil in ths bottom to immerse the pipe into....with help of a friend to pump the clutch pedal.. open the nipple with the pipe in the jar and pump slowly until the fluid level rises in the jar ...maintain the fluid level in the reservoir and tighten the bleed nipple ...operate the pedal and the clutch should work.....you might get a pedal by just filling the reservoir and repeat the pumping action ....
Thank you for taking the time to reply, I will attempt the job shortly, regards Vic
