Can you paint over waxoly?
Hi,
Do any of you know if its possible to painting over waxoly at all?
No is the short answer.. wax + paint do not mix.
Could you spray a skin of paint over the top.. yes that has been done but as soon as you touch the skin it breaks and goes all Nora Batty on you. Plus reactive paints like 2 pack will not paint over it.. say Hammerite will (cost the paint and thinners.. expensive).
Options;
1. Dinotrol 4019 = Corroheat
This contains corrosion inhibitor but drys to a matt finish.. I have done engine bay, sills and door hinges, door front shuts/bases with this.. I could show you photos but you cannot really see it.. trouble is that it is still wax so it will still go Nora Batty or react.. but it is a bit harder.
2. Paint first.. then wax on top with 3125 and finally top with black 4941
3. Cosmetic areas .. Paint and finish with 4019 .. but it takes a while to dry in winter cold (needs 2 hours at 18C)
Dinotrol types;
ML Cavity wax
3125 Cavity Wax
4941 black under body wax
77B dry heavy wax
485 medium dry wax
4010 thin dry heat resistant wax
4012 thin dry heat resistant lacquer
y do u want to paint over it?
Wipe it off with rag .. then clean with "panel Wipe thinners" or "paint prepartion degreaser" at £5/5 litres at car paint supplier.... or just use petrol and forget about the benzene exposure..
Then paint it...
hey thanks alot mgrays!
I want to paint over it as I have started doing areas on the floor of the merc (took all carpet and seats etc out) but I don't want it to be noticable if someone ever lifts up the carpet!
