OM602 Compresion
Hi all,
any advice concerning the procedure for finding out the compresion of my engine (OM 602, 290 gdt, 1999, auto, LWB, W461).
Cheers Angelos
Unless you want to buy a compression gauge tester with adapters to fit your engine, I suggest you get a local diesel expert to do the job for you.
This tool even if you buy it will be rarely used. Your choice.
Alternatively, if you do not take a direct compression test of the cylinders, you can ask the garage to do an anyalsis of cylinder balance, this can be done at cranking speed or under runing conditions; provided the garage is equiped with the appropriate diagnostic equipment.

Hi fellows,
any idea of the spare parts that I need for a proper rebuild of my OM 602?
Just to estimate the amount of money that I have to pay for.
Thanks Angelos
Without having any idea, I would say that it very much depends on the state of your engine....
Hi Jesus,
my G has 500.000 km on the clock  , meaning propably I have to overhaul (is that the correct word? )change pistons etc. Is there any full kit for that? Also I have heard that there are MAHLE spare parts for this, any point on that?
Regards Angelos
Even with that mileage, the overhaul might not need to be complete. I ve seen Mercedes engines with twice that mileage and the pistons looked like new, needing only new segments. The only way to know the state of your engine is to take it to a specialist. In Spain many inmigrants worked in Mercedes factories in Germany in the seventies and eighties and then returned and set up their workshops specilalizing in Mercedes engines. I would imagine that Greece should be very much like that too. Make your enquires and find a trustworthy place to take your G to and ask them to do it for you....
Hi Unusual to have cylinder wear on just one cylinder after 500.000 km perhaps the engine was run with low water causing the front cylinder to overheat. are you going to change all the journal bearings oil pump and timing chain during the overhaul???
Thanks Pistonhead,
I' ll follow your advice, doesn't worth to buy it, you have right. My concern is the emissions that comes out of the pipe on the head and goes to turbo, there are a lot
