Wiper bearings earlier 460
There seems to be an issue with the right hand wiper bearing/arm assembly from MB. The part has a change over at around 66,000 chassis number and my 58,000 G from 1988 should be the earlier type.
The part MB supplied to me is A 00 820 43 46 which is right on EPC.
This has the 2 knuckles for the linkage but they are in the wrong place and in wrong direction compared to what came off my car. The later after 66,000 chassis number cars are only available with a complete linkage (ie both bearings and the link arms).
New one is in front in photo
Has anyone else come across this?
Oh and 463 one I did get by mistake .. the bearing section is longer, the centre to knuckle distance is longer yet the motor is the same by part numbers .. so they obviously reworked the linkage quite a lot for the 463.. now I have one spare
mygrays,
one of the very few questions I can answer.
i had the same problem.
my local Belfast agent was very helpful, however it appears that there is at least one fault with MB's EPC, ie these bloody wiper linkages
the answer is simple, knock your old duff bit to bits and use it as a template to centre punch and bore an interference sized hole in the right place in the new one.
I do not remember exactly how I got the ball ended spigot removed from the new part but it is not that difficult, tap it in the correct way round, rivet ( or perhaps braze / weld back in )
I riveted mine and it has been fine.
good luck
then grease your knuckles, vasiline is best it will help heal the gouges that will be in your knuckles
cheers
Marcus
Seriousley hope your wife? does not "tidy" the garage in the meantime.
Oh I say, sound man !
bastard ! , even more "projects" than I can muster
Hi the Part Number for the early 460 passenger side bearing is A 000 820 42 46 at GBP 14.62 each from MB dealerships.. described lager-rep-satz or w/wiper linkeage.......
just noticed my wiper linkage is worn badly, and thought i look and see if there was any good advice on here . :D hey presto picture of part and wrong part ,proper part no. and price .how much dash board dismantling is reguired i dont want to go too far as it always seems to uncover more things to mend
Hi the passenger side one (RHD) is accessible (after removing the glove box through the glove box aperture...the drivers side is difficult to get at without dismantling the dash ..can be done but you need slim hands ..long fingures..and a good retinue of verbal expleatives....strip the new bearings and grease them with high melting point grease.or drill an oil hole in the body and then add them to the pre winter service schedule.......
thanks fixwin you could write abook with your posts on here. glove box entry thankfully . so expleatives could be under wraps ,i found if you want to really want to let rip a bit off spray painting was best   i try to avoid that sort of thing now :)
Marcus,
That was plan B.. (Grind, knock out, drill holes, reinsert and MIG weld tack in place)..
... but hoped that someone here might have the right part number! (plan A)
.. as for fitment .. well no dash, interior, windscreen, inner/outer front wings, doors etc .. seems like the right time to do it! .. a long hard road!
