Has anybody tuned a diesel turbo?

Thinking about getting a tuning box from RaidHP.

Wonder if its worth it. Figure if the claims are true then it will pay for itself quite quickly.

Any downsides?

Re: chip tuning

Hmm they claim both drivertrain warranty AND TüV approved, sounds good. Also as long as there's no way the insurance company can find out if you do make a claim...you needn't worry about that?

well if they will go driving it what else can they expect  :?

Re. fuel consumption improvement.................yea right! :D Last time I heard more power usually equaled more fuel

Can not comment on the company you quote but most of the so called tuv approved ones simply con the engine management in to over fueling by sending incorrect temperature readings to the ecu. All you've done is hand over money for a box with a resistor in it. Or lots of money for one with a variable resistor
Unless the ecu controls both fueling AND turbo boost IMHO its a waste of time and money

Re: chip tuning

i will back Russ on that one as my local "guru" who "tweeked" my beloved Galaxy a no of years ago for better performance, and NO INCREASE in fuel consumption via a laptop according to him undetable and verified as I had her on an official VW computer and it did not register any such tweeks.
"scowled like a butterwitch" about these advertised "tuningboxes" as being "nothing but a fancy packaged resistor in a fancy sealed box"
Cheers

The Speedhawk and Diesel tuning Box is a plug and play system that can quickly and easily be fitted in approx 10-20 minutes. It is supplied with easy to follow English instructions written by us (not pidgin English!). Unlike Chip tuning, it can be easily added or removed at home, without a trip to a workshop.

Re: chip tuning

Have had my ML320 turbo diesel tuned with a Brabus chip. Made great difference particularly to midrange power. Fuel consumption overall also improved but only slightly.
Also scheduled to have my 463 G500 chipped which should improve bhp/torque by approx 10% - quite a lot less than a turbo engine but hopefully worth it!  I'll report back on G500 when I've had it done.

Re: chip tuning

I'm non-the-wiser here and a little confused as to what actually works. I also have a 300TD and altough I find the performance adequate, it could do with a little bit more hp/torque. All of the above-mentioned 'packages' are for common-rail engines as far as I can tell. Does anyone know of a specific upgrade that works for the 606 engine? I see that mosselman does a remap (claiming respectable 206bhp and 410NM torque figures) and one can go to a UK garage to get the job done: anyone tried this one? maxwell, did you buy the chip that you saw on ebay? Please any advice as usual would be appreciated. Thanks/ph

Re: chip tuning

Following on from my last post - now had the remap done on the G500 (463). It's made a good improvement to engine smoothness and mid range power - tends to kick down less when overtaking for example. Remap was done by E-maps uk who are agents for what is a German based tuning company of same name. It was all done through the OBD port; existing mapping downloaded to laptop and emailed to Germany, new mapping sent back over internet to laptop and then reloaded. Whole process took about 90 mins.
