Door Pins
Are these just knocked out and replaced???? :?
I tried this but couldn't get it to shift - the pin is splined, like a wheel bolt stud. If you take the hinge off you might stand a chance - I didn't want to open up another can of worms so just used up the adjustments on the bolts :(
Hi on the bench in a vice they will push out.... (to the detriment of the paint) rotate the pin 180 degrees and you get another period of use..drilling a small hole in the male section of the hinge allows you to lubricate the rotating segment with a pump type oil can.....or sexier still tap the hole to suit a grease nipple and apply grease *** remove the grease nipple before you shut the door.....I have never been able to source the pin ..only complete hinges from MB.......
But front doors you will mess the steel work above the top hinge it seems as there is not enough clearance.. MB replacements are bolt in 463 ones?
I tried and failed to move them .. need serious flame spanner and hinge in vice to have a hope I suspect. I ended up working them while feeding with oil followed by grease over a few weeks.. hope they last
I have freed a seized hinge by soaking it in diesel for a few days, removing it to work it in the vice periodically.
I have bought hinge pins from MB, about £2 each, think a complete hinge was about £40, but you would have to paint it. Mechanic mate had to reove the hinge to hammer the old pin out, does cosemetic damage to hinge, also depends on how worn they are. I worked really well, 1 less so. They need regular oil!
Thanks Chaps,
The pins in my mates doors are knackered! We have possible access to a coulpe of scrapers so we'll swop the hinges.
Cheers
