Very interesting story with this car. I had been looking around for a while and I couldn't find a good one. The on the off chance I logged onto the MB website and saw this car for sale in Newcastle at the dealer. I spoke to the dealer and the car sounded good except it already had over 100K on the clock! Then he told me the story...
One owner car that they supplied from new. The customer was a very good and wealthy local businessman. Anyway he was driving through his estate and he managed to get a spike through the bottom of the engine. The dealer took the car in part exchange on a new one, expecting to repair the car. However upon inspection they realised that the engine could not be repaired. By this time the deal had already gone through and the car was theirs. They tried to find a reconditioned engine to sell the car out to trade, but couldnt find one.
So they ended up fitting a brand new engine in the car! The best bit was that the dealer chain had a policy that any car in stock for more than 3 months should be sold for cost price. I ended up paying £10K for the car, and the dealer provided me with an invoice for £5.5K for PARTS ONLY! There was no labour charge as it was an internal invoice.
I drove the car for about 6 years, added 70K to the clock, and when I sold it it drove fab. The only things I added were the G500 wheels, light, and lots of petrol!
