Dilema
Hi
Just wanted to update you all on my progress on getting a G and ask some advice.
I've got a few options but cant decide what to do.
1. G500 Saudi car. 90K miles. Light gold colour. 2001 car (no command system)
2. G290 CDi Saudi car. miles unknown as of yet. Silver. 2004/5 car. Full options to G500 standard. Im yet to receive full details. More expensive than #1 by £3k
3. G500 to be imported from US. 2002 car with 60K miles. Black (the colour I wanted). £2.5K more than #1.
4. G500 to be imported from US. 2003 car with 60K miles. Black. Has upgrades like indicators in mirrors, illuminated door sills, etc. Just over 3K more than #1.
The problem is that I will need to wait upto 8 weeks before I have the car here (4-6 weeks shipping and 2 weeks for paperwork to be cleared). Should I be patient? The best car is #4 and only £600 more than #3, but more of a car.
Also anyone know the differences between a 2002 & 2003 car? when did they make the changes?
Thanks in advance!
Hi, can't give you any advice as to which car to buy but from what I have read on the P3 forum there are some years to avoid. Probably worth doing some research on there. Try a search with Kerr as authur - he had an o2 that was a nightmare.
Not trying to scare you, just do some research.
There will be people here with advice I'm sure.

I have an 01 G500. Not sure if it was an option orginally but it does have a SAT NAV system that is compattable with the MB COMMAND I & II disks. Check out the onboard computer thingy, the steering wheel has the controllers and you should have natty lights when you open the door (both front) that says Mercedes Benz.
For the UK Spec you got the alarm/imobiliser system. But thats about all I can tell you, ecept the 500 is a great truck. Are you based in the UK or overseas? If in Mid East GO FOR THE 500 engine as petrol is more sensibly priced!!!!

I would definitely go for option one. If it hasn't got satnav it definitely is a 1999 spec G, with less electronics and the older style dash. Definitely the last of the best. It will be less prone to malfunctions/breakdown than the last two and it is clearly much more sophisticated then number two.
Thanks guys.
Petrol is unbelievably cheap here. It cost me £2.90 to fill up my rental Toyota Corolla (not a misprint)! I expect the G will cost about £6-8 to fill of the best stuff. .

I am just going to go off to a corner and cry!
Thanks guys.
I've just moved to Jeddah and since 4x4s are the car of choice, there is only one 4x4 to choose. Sadly its rarer than the UK so im having to look further afield, hence US market.

The 290 diesel is a good price, but its diesel! I've even considered buying it and swapping the engine, but im not sure if other parts will also need to be replaced.
