Took my G500 for a MOT today which it passes but not without a bit of excitement. First thing is the new computer based system which the guys have to log into to start the test. They searched for a G500 but coundn't find one. There was a 280 and 230 and a 300GEL but that was the lot I think. So we registered it as a Mercedes and left it at that.
The other problem was the exhaust emissions test. Again the guys have to log in the specific vehicle and no Gs there at all on the standard drop down menu. It is possible to input a vehicle to carry on with the test.

I had a slight exhaust leak at the manifold/ pipe junction which was sufficient to mess up the lambda test. Amazingly accurate, The exhaust gas failed due to reading a slightly lean mixture. The guy said that the slight leak might cause the problem and he was correct as when we tightened the manifold bolts it passed easily. A relief. The lambda figure needs to be close to 1 and mine was 1.000 :D
So there you have it. What are you other guys finding with the new web based test? This has only been manditory since April 2007

Re: MOT gossip

I found the new test has lots more advisories and less definate fails which gives a bit more leeway.

Re: MOT gossip

Yes, the tester was able to issue advisories regarding my exhaust leak but he tightened the bolts during the test thereby enabling it to pass. He also said that the time taken for the test is recorded and checked by the VOSA crowd. He had to justify why the test took so long. Thus he recorded the exhaust leak

Re: MOT gossip

puts an end to purchasing your mot then! there was a place in hanwell that got caught out due to it being physically imbossible to do the amount of tests he was doing!

had it on the ml and the 306 with no problems, but its obviously going to cause a fuss for the g's

Re: MOT gossip

i recently took my mitsubishi canters for mot, they hardly registered on the scale for emissions ( very efficient engines) however Ken livingston says that in two years I will have to fit a filter, for euro 3, even though its below that now, tosser!!!!!!!!!!

Re: MOT gossip

Dear Mr. Perfect,

I might know a man that could help out there. But then you would have to pay Irish road tax and provide an Irish Insurance cert. Not insurmountable problems but hardly worth it overall.
If thinking otherwise let me know.

Regards,
Mike
