Hi new to the site, so hi all. I've just moved from London to Jeddah (Saudi) and ive been trying to find a G500 with not much luck! I even considered buying a 2008 model that the dealer had only to find the one they had was sold, and the next one available would be landing in June. Too late for me as Im looking for a car now. So I started looking at other options and was seriously considering a 2004 ML55 AMG or a 2003 Cayenne S, both at good prices and in good condition.

Anyway I got so fed up that I ended up chatting to this guy who was driving one and asked him if he knew any for sale. Turns out he had two, one his and one was his dads. Both was for sale as they have a 2008 model G500 landing in two months.

Both cars are in excellent condition specs below:
2002 G320L Silver with grey leather. No command system. 37,000 kms.
2002 G500L light gold with black leather. All options inc command etc. 29,500 kms.

I have no idea what they are worth as the miles are so low. The guy is asking top dollar as the condition like new and the miles are so low.

Anyway realistically how much would something like this be worth in the UK/Europe or Usa? Its very hard to compare it to anything over here as its so rare!

Thanks in advance

PS I had a G300 in the UK for 6 years and was gutted when I sold it having added 70K miles!

Re: Newbie & G500

Hi G's in the Gulf regions attract far higher prices than Europe due to availability as well as condition. purchasing formalities for nationals and residents are less complicated than those applied to foreigners on shortcontract /workpermit assignments.compare Abu Dhabi Dubai.Kuwait.Bahrain prices with those in Saudi.and Oman. Qatar is supposed to be a cheaper source for top spec G's

Try searching mobile.de for comparable prices. But there are a few members here in the middle east so perhaps they will pipe in.

Re: Newbie & G500

hi there, and welcome to the club :!:

my best friend also moved to saudi (sharja) i think its called.he brought a white G500 last summer when he moved and paid less than £30000 for it :!:

it belonged to a sheik of one of the regions and being part of a fleet had only covered 17000 miles its a full spec and looks the biznis

he loves the roar and the fact that it fills up for about £10

the arabs love G's and they attract alot of attention where ever they go!!

(thanks to maktoum)

Re: Newbie & G500

hus55!! sharjah is in the UAE..please! and it's maktoum not maktoon..

but back on the subject, in the UAE a G of that vintage would fetch (i'm guessing) around 120k riyals..obviously depending on the seller, but I have seen early 500s for about 100k, so if you can bargain him down using prices from the UAE (www.usedcars.ae www.autotraderuae.com etc) that might be an idea. Esp. if he has 2, he must know what market there is for them, I hardly see or hear of any over there.
Alternatively you could fly to Dubai, get one and drive it (export it) back. I've seen Saudi cars for sale in Dubai markets, so the opposite shouldn't be too hard. A Saudi friend even takes his Dubai-registered car into Saudi on holiday (now that he lives in Dubai), so maybe you could register it in Dubai and take it over on Dubai plates. Everyone will give you extra care on the roads as they realise you're just a tourist :p

btw. what price is he asking for it...if it's not too rude to ask?

Pricewise he wanted in excess of 200K SAR! I almost fell out of the passenger side when he told me.

Re: Newbie & G500

For that kinda money you can get a G55 from Dubai, sure not a kompressor, but the twin-side exhaust with clear headlights from 2001 at least...
Ps. those bought from former royal duty/hunting are generally in not too good a condition inside, I've seen some with torn carpets and gun/rifle holds placed in random positions, with subsequent holes in the interior, not to mention many holders for mobile phones and radios, and hence many antenna holes in the body. Just a word of caution...also if the headlights/front indicators are hazy then it has probably been on the highways at speed so make sure all those service items are looked at, like front bearings at 100k.

Re: Newbie & G500

M2dxb. Thanks for the advice!

Huss fear not. I have more pics of the G55 on my home PC, so I'll post later. My perfect combination is a Black with cognac coloured interior, but black cars are pretty rare here. So far I've got two silver and two light gold coloured cars on my radar.

What do people think of the light gold (champagne colour) exterior? Ultimately Im looking to keep the car for years and bring it backt o the UK when I return. Will it have any appeal over there? In the Mid East the light cars are prefered, hence the white.

Re: Newbie & G500

Champagne and white don't do so well here... probably the only colour that would work well in both countries would be silver.

Re: Newbie & G500

apparently a handful (5) were made, i have one on record when it was for sale, new, list €259,793,60, in deutschland.
another photo of one on sale in affalterbach (i think) shows square exhausts and different wheels to the one spotted in dubai, which does not bear the royal number (1) however that doesn't mean there aren't numerous other royal numbers unknown to the general public.

Re: Newbie & G500

im lost now! is that 6.3 any relation to the modern 63's (6.2 l) that amg puts in most of its line up now?

Re: Newbie & G500

i think the only G that AMG fitted with a 6.3 was the V12 naturally aspirated version (444hp) not to be confused with the brabus conversion, of the 5.8-6.2l twin-turbo 550hp engine. i'm sure AMG will do one if you ask with an open pocket :p

There is a shot somewhere that clearly shows G6.3 on the back. Definitely a 2007/8 too.

Don't forget he owns a large portion of MB - they will make and have made whatever he asks for....

Re: Newbie & G500

i wish i had the courage to paint mine white last month..
i kept on thinking that the G attracted enough attention on the road as it is, but white would definitely send it over the top.

that said, i think white is one of the great color on the G (besides black and grey). the others, i don't really fancy all that much

now, if i had the resources, a white G55K would be my 'on-road' fun vehicle :)

only if you live in a hot and sunny country.... otherwise it just looks like you're driving an expensive fridge in the UK.

white 463s have a harder time selling over here. 460s are ok though.

Re: Newbie & G500

you know, that's definitely something to think about

for the longest time any white vehicle had a hard time selling here in indonesia. the same model and year white car would sell for a few thousand less than any other colors, IF you get lucky and found someone crazy enough to buy it.

but this past couple of years has seen a surge of popularity in white cars.
in some cases white even demands a few thousand in premium. all of a sudden white has become 'THE' color for the trendy crowd

At one point all the police cars in London were white and they had a hard time selling them off once they had completed their service. They have since changed them to silver for this very reason.

Re: Newbie & G500

car companies are now showing cars off more and more in white, im thinking porsche and mercedes, ive seen a few white new shape m3's on the road too. i think this is why its becoming popular, but a pearly white g or lambo is a tad different to a white v. astra!

i did see a white audi r8 a couple of days ago... but the boxy nature of a G just makes it look like a fridge on wheels...

Re: Newbie & G500

white IS the new black!

i have always liked white especially when living in cyprus

and it dont show up swirl marks or scratches.

bollotti's white 463 looks nice in white with the subtle mods he has done,BUT it would look the NUTS if he colour coded the whole G and put a chrome grill on too

tell ya what,he would have sold it to 'Hackney' mobster by now :!:
