Hi,

can somebody confirm the tank capacity for a 460 with the two saddle tanks?

Also the fuel gauge - does it accurately show whats in tanks, as 1/4 tank is very close to reserve? How many gallons are available at arounf the half full mark?

...would like to answer these myself but cannot afford to fill her 100%

Re: Petrol tank capacity??

Book says 230 - 68l
reserve 10l
saddle 13.5l x2
280 81.5l
reserve 10l
saddle 13.5l

presumably the 280 comes with one saddle as standard

Mine drops rapidly from 1/4 but goes a long way on reserve

Cheers
Chris

Hi You can remove the sender which has resistance wires that get coated with gunge like varnish normally at the lower end of the float travel ...remove the aluminium tube and there they are... BE VERY GENTLE in the cleaning process using a chemical like toluene (nail varnish remover) and a childs paint brush...you will see when the wires are clean because they shine from end to end. there may also be gunge in the bottom of the tank which gets into the aluminium tube and causes the guage to fluctuate at low fuel levels to the point where the reserve fuel warning light does not operate.it is not easy to remove all the gunge via the drain hole in the bottom of the fuel tank... without removing the tank and using the filler neck opening to flush the tank..but removing the tank opens up a new can of worms......corroded straps ..perished hoses..etc *** access to the fuel guage sender is by removing the square panel (4 screws) in the floor under the rear mat...in the rear load area via the back door.....petrol is one large nut and an "o" ring.....diesel is a panel with a seal and screw fixings.....the petrol electrics are via multiplug.... diesel have terminal ends on the wires........

Re: Petrol tank capacity??

..thanks for answers guys

 Dentsmithy : So with 2 saddle tanks thats 108.5 litres?

Fixwin38 : I don't think there is a problem with gauge just the markings (but thanks for advice - may come in handy later)

Does my 460 280ge has a fuel light? never seen it?

So the marks on the gauge are accurate - the first mark after reserve is 1/4 tanks (aprox. 27 litres?)?

Total capacity with two saddle tanks is 68+13.5*2 = 95 litres

Hi the pointer on the guage should be in line with the first mark before the reserve light comes on at which point you have approx 4.5 ltrs of fuel in the tank..the sender in the tank powers the guage in the dash from the float position/resistance at any given point....

I've just got 108 litres into mine!!

Also, on lazy 60 mile run home, got 20.4 mpg!! Never thought I'd see that now!!
