Hello all and happy new year.

I would like some advice on the following. I notice recently a grinding/ rubbing sound as I release the clutch in first and second gear. The noise is at a certain point just as the clutch engages and if I keep the clutch at that point the noise continues intermittently. I can also detect, at the same time as the noise, a slight vibration through the gear lever.
Any idea whats going on?? Thanks Vic b.

Could be the thrust bearing.

Only hearing it in 1st and 2nd could be a red herring. THe noise could be there in the other gears but you can't hear it because other noises (tyre, engine, wind etc) cover it up at higher speeds.

Thanks for the reply,
Could it be anything else?? If not how much is a thrust bearing and does it have to be a main dealer part. I assume I will do no harm by using my vehicle as is. Also is this a costly job? Thanks Vic b

Thanks,
I assume fitting requires gear box removal, what else should I know, also what is the likely labour cost?
thanks Vic
