Big Blue wrong way up
Some pics to share of a wee indescretion at the last Winch challenge event run by Ae4x4 club , while romping through the punches we had ended up with a bent drag link , so as the next punches were in a tight section down the bottom of this hill we decided to get back to the truck and repair said bent drag link , only problem was there was no tree or anchor point to winch up to so we had to try pulling to the side , unfortunatelty this meant Big Blue ended up on his side for a wee rest .While it was on its side I thought it the perfect opportunityremove and straighten the drag link , we had offers of recovery but we were determined to self recover incase we got penalised for outside assistance , so Ian rigged up the rear winch with snatch block and pulled us neatly back onto our wheels. Damage - Front window , although if you had seen the G after the event you would have put all the damage down to the roll , but all the damage was just the rest of the event !!! After we got everything back in place we carried on and finished up 4th Overall even after spending about an hour on our side and recovering truck . Next round is this weekend 30th December , window replaced and winches overhauled , new bars fitted and raring to go , Oh and I changed the engine as I was never happy with the power delivery of the original unit , and it always had a strange wee noise from it every since it was built so it seemed a good time to swap it , Ian and I had a bet with a mate as to how long it would take us to take the engine out , we said we could do it in 2 hrs dead from running with winch and bumper still attached to out on the deck , he said ' No way !! ' , it took 1 hour 10 mins . The reward of black drinking liquid from our Irish friends tasted sweet !!!
Good job that wasn't freds 230
Good luck with the next one
Allan, welcome anytime. 230 joined by second 230 and last week by sweet little 240 gd cabrio
alan, you going the tray back route, its the only way now mate.
When you make the roll cage make sure you put large rings at the top rear on both sides. You can feed the rear winch through these to right yourself if you ever go over again. simple but very effective.
