hi all newbie anyone know anything about soft top g wagons?
ok well brother in law and me run a workshop together, since he was about ten years old his family gave him a mercedes g wagon diesel, we believe its quite rare as its a soft top one, well we think rare as we have never seen another lol, 1985 b reg, 3.0 diesel
anyways sice then its had a full strip rebuild, turbo conversion, full flip respray about 4 years ago
but allways been used abused as a mobile mechanic van and general dogs body, basicly we work it like it should be
fooking great old thing so powerfull can have it sideways quite often, allways down the new forest and vertually on its side or trying to climb out of some stoopid mud filled ditch
cant really find much out on google about the old things found a great forum but have to pay 25 quid to join the owners club
so awsome to run about in tho as you never ever see another on the road very stable old things too
we seriosuly are toying with the idea of a v8 possibly twin turbo depends on what we can find ust the fuel costs that are concerning
so basicly.......... hiya
Apples,
Got any pictures?
Spider1V

Hi Apples the PIcs are OK.....it was obviously built without the arches and originally had steel wheels.. and was a UK import..looks fit enough on the outside to retrofit....is four or five speed ??....
You obvioulsy have one of the very rare UK-only 300GD "Open pick-ups".

Hi Apples all UK specification Cabrio G's of that era had a pickup body..no seats in the back and spare wheel behind the seat...there have been 2 (white ones) on offer in the UK in tha last year (one from the Isle of Man they sold for around GBP 3000 as I remember.....Another one built from a conventional SWB but fitted with a 617A turbo D engine fetched nearer GBP 4000...You need a hot summer.s day with the top down to get the best money........
re-phrase that comment
that G looks nice at the show
please "use" it but dont "abuse"it :!: :D
