year of manufacture?
I was wondering if there is a way of finding out when a car was made. This 240 is registered as 1982 but I have corespondance from the original owner expressing doubts. Jesus thinks early 1980 from the chassis number
46031017002939
It has the early 6 bolt flanges on the props so obviously before the first rethink.
Any ideas?
Does it not say on your paperwork? It does on mine.
No data card then I take it?
Normally you find date codes on things if you get desperate.. back of interior trim panels etc.. sure I saw a sticker on the back of one bit sitting on the shelf.. normal easy checks are seat belt labels and rubber hoses which are dated.
Hi Chris go to the russian website under Technical this forum enter your vin No (17 digits) and it will reveal all !!! yours was ordered by a Belgian dealer in the first 6 mths of 1979.I thought I copied you that data ????
That must be the oldest G in the UK :D ,

Hi Chris if the VIN search can be believed then the order was placed with the factory in early part of 1979.....and it was ordered to the European specification.I am given to understand that all the early rhd imports into the uk did not have the rear seats/seatbelt anchor points or the external spare wheel carrier and possibly no side windows in the ragtop......
Hi, no only first registration. I think it sat around in the dealer for a while but doesn't seem to have been a demonstrator.
Cost new was £8,803 + import duty £2,278 = £11,081
I suspect they were not available in this country at this time it must have been a bold step to import a G wagen
