Re: I will one day......

When the demand dries up, then the price will fall......I was talking to James at G wagen last week and he reckoned that if he could get 20 RHD ones they would all be sold before they were even delivered to him........He's got a nice Black SWB on a Y plate (I think), doen about 65k miles but £38000 :-()

Re: I will one day......

I can see £38K for a LWB but that is pricey for a SWB. If you look at wheelhouse or autotrader you should be able to get a RHD SWB for around £30-33K.

Even the Brabus SWB is cheaper and it has less miles....

Re: I will one day......

I'm sure thats what he said, may have been £36k, he also had a nice black LWB on an 03 plate with only 16000 miles, but LHD, and there was a £2k spread in price, maybe the LHD was the dearer, I forget. Crazy prices, all......When the credit crunch really hits home I reckon values may tumble as people will be tightening their belts so much the thought of a v8 petrol will go out of the window, no doubt CDI prices will harden at the same time ;-)

surely £25 to drive into london from october next year plus nopt getting discount if you live there putting it up from £200 a year to £6,250 a year! that should knock prices a bit

Re: I will one day......

No Jonnyboy you did hear him right.... strange as in some ways James has gotten more competitive with his prices and in other aspects he's still dreaming...

Yup Tom and when that happens I move to the country... actually I thought about getting 9 seats in my G to get exempt until I realised I would have to pay the forthcoming LEZ charge... which makes the CC charge look like peanuts.

Now someone mentioned minicab....

Re: I will one day......

Ok, So maybe I am living in a false environment, however one of the reasons I looked at (and justified) a 5ltr V8 was the rising cost of Diesel. In my area it is now £1.19 per ltr and talking to the garage owners it is going to go up (please also remember that the oil companies only make a small % of this, most of it is in duty), however premium super unleaded is only £1.09 a ltr and normal is £1.04. (I don’t do that many miles, and the miles I do, I am fortunate to be able to claim back on expenses.) I tend to get around 320 miles to the tank on a petrol and 400 with my old 2.7 ML diesel.

I also know that a diesel is more harmful to the environment through the particulates that come out, so to put some balance back into the environment and to be one of the last to have a ‘V8 Rumble’ before they are taxed off the planet and the ‘Fundagreenies’ have their way – I say, if you can, go live a little, be one of the few drivers left who have a smile on their faces when driving, are looked on with envy by other drivers, who will lower the window down and open the sun roof just to hear the glorious roar and thunder of a Mercedes G Wagen V8 at operation temp.

When waiting at a crossing and a dad and his children cross in front of you and you see them look, and smile and give you the sign to ‘blip’ the throttle – do so and spread your smile, let people know that you believe in not following the herd, you are unique, you are special – you drive a G500 and you are proud!

In the words of St. Nike – Just do it!

Rant over, apologies for any offence to other G drivers  but motoring in this country is becoming emasculated by this government in fines, stealth taxes and stupid ideas that just don't work and frankly we are not getting value for money on our roads - the roads in Romania are better maintained!

Not so sure about that either, the enviromental arguement was always in favour of diesel, paticulates are a fairly recent occurance in the statistics which the media love cause they can harp on about dirty diesels, and white van drivers and lorries and taxis, it's all part of the divide and conquor routine.

Those that want to end it all, in the garage with a hose running from the exhaust in to tha car use petrol motors, apparently it takes far to long with a diesel, no carbon monoxide.

Anyway, no need to justify your choice here, G's are G's whether "230's or 55K's

Re: I will one day......

Agreed - as I said, my aim was to not cause offence to other G owners. It was to help the originator of this Topic - Peter - justify a reason for getting a V8! It just raged out of control!

Coupled with the fact I bumped into a few of the 'Eco Nazi's' - you know the type if it is not a bike or a battery powered, solar car, running on recycled bog roll i.e a Prius - at the week end who decided to have a go at me, but not the LR V8 defender next to me as 'It is a traditional, working Land Rover and we do not class that as environmentally damaging as your, and I quote here 'Behemoth'. My comments on double standards was completely above them!

Due to the sensitive nature of some of our Forum members and out of common decency I will not repeat what I said – though I am sure you can guess along what lines I followed! Incidentally, and you may find this funny – they did not believe that the Holy father, Il Papa, the Pope has one to! And called me a lair! Hmmmmmmm – I will leave it there if I may!

Anyway let's get back on topic - Peter I am more than happy to let you have a play with my G and will answer any questions you have, I will have to pop over to see Jonnyboy soon and let him have a longer go, however what I can say about the SWB it is great, fast and fun, but I found the ride a bit 'choppy' compared with the LWB - BUT I am still aiming to get one when I can afford it! 8)

Re: I will one day......

Hear hear Spider. When someone makes an eco car that sounds as good as a V8, maybe I'll consider it. I recycle anyway to compensate - I've recycled the Cayenne to someone else. Enjoy life when you can, we are merely a blip on the throttle of history, and pretty soon, I understand we'll all be driving electric anyway.

spider, I know what a V8 sounds like, the one of mine below is a 5.6 V8, and id wager mine sounds better than yours  however its not as refined as a G500 as its a conversion. I just want a G500 for the same reasons you did, but my 560 only does 9MPG

Re: I will one day......

Gosh! That looks FAB! Is for concourse exhibitions? And what BHP do you get out of it? (bet your real name is Esso BP Mc Shell  ). And before I put my feet in it again, how about posting a ‘Garage' shot of your others or sending me a link if they are in the gallery - Please?

I was looking through the picture gallery and saw a 6.3 that some one had overseas. Apologies for maybe overstating the obvious, but down here in Bucks the ‘Fundagreenies’ still don’t get it, they see a 4x4 but don’t’ see the Jag’s, Bentleys, Astons etc etc, which really get on my T**s. Apologies to all for the rant, but these days if you don’t hug a tree from time to time, people think you are not normal and the ‘Fundagreenies’ really don’t realise that maybe people may want to have a choice and not be dictated to!

However roll on the bad weather and the Spider1V shall have the last laugh! Mwhahaha!
