In June this year I swapped my 617 normally aspirated engine for an imported turbo charged engine despite some auto box control issues related to vacuum control lines it has been largely successful operation. Despite the unit not being the fittest engine around the g accelerated like a normal car and over taking other vehicles has become a realistic option .however over last few days the power has dropped it doesn’t seem to be misfiring or producing smoke or anything like that. ive changed fuel filter and cleaned air filter .the air turbine is still spinning .it has still got original exhaust , I am planning to change this to a wider bore at some time .I was hopping some one out their could suggest what might be wrong and how to go about rectifying it all wisdom gratefully received thanks j walker

Check wastegate on turbo is free.. maybe even remove pipe to actuator just to test and put a 6-7 psi pressure gauge on pipe you remove.. also check pipe to injection pump to ensure it is getting turbo pressure signal.. it is probably no boast (eg wastegate/turbo) or no fuel (signal/action of injection pump) .. after that you are into standard diesel stuff... you seem to have done the filters ... check for stupids like blocked filter in the fuel tank (not uncommon), throttle linkage, valve clearance etc..

Hi check tappet settings..for some reason they go "off song" on the 617 seriis engines..... as do the injectors....you could check throttle linkeage tolerances as well.... perhaps the pedal is on the floor before the injector pump it fully open......

Re: power loss 617a turbo engine

thanks for your prompt replys ,i gave waste gate housing a good tapping and tested pressure which was inexess of 6 p s i my guess is this had got stuck open . i assume the pipe to the fuel pump is the one loccated at back of inlet manifold going to top of fuel pump.this was disconected as i dint know what it was on pictures of 123 salon engine it goes through a elctrical switch or sender .having reconnected it engine speeds up heaps better !!hardley need any throttle to get moving this explains why i had to open fuel stop screw completly to get anthing out of engine . self teaching can be a fustrating process a little knoledge from this forum goes a long way lastly does any one know function of vaccum pipe on valve on front of turbo ? thanks fumbling about in dark j walker
