Hi there,

I am new here, I own a GE280 swb 1985 automatic LPG.
Had a LaRo Def TD5 and had a Ford Explorer.

I want to join the GWOA.
I am a tech guy, so I want to ask?
Whats the quality of the maintenance manuals, do they cover the full car in all details.
For instance i want to overhul the transfer case, does it give the bearing adjusment protocol and the MB partnumbers.

Thanks
Jos

Welcome to the GWOA...
perhaps this answers your question, sorry I'm not that familiar with 460s!

Re: New guy with GE280

Have the car now for 3 weeks.
Body is OK.
Lost of work on the tech side.

Engine runs OK now on LPG, it has a OMVL pressure regulator with a classic pierced venturi and a classic main inline mixture nozle.

First start at the day still lost of crancking before starting. Rest of the day gives a quick start.

Petrol fuel injection system is crap, took out the relais. So now its LPG only, have a 120ltr tank so thats no problem.

Switching from petrol to LPG did go automatic resulting in backfire and pushing out the air weigh device out of the rubber coupler.

On advice of the LPG specialist the cold start becomes quicker when the air weigh plate is openend manualy. They can deliver a plunger conected to the pressure regulator evaporator which push down the air weigh plate at start. I know have a rod which permanent holds the air weigh plate open.

First 200kms did 70ltrs so I was shocked, drove 120kmhr cruise, so next trip will be 80kmhr cruise.

Anybody have fuel consumption figures when towing.

Next to come are the frontwheel bearings.
After that a pull of the petrol tank and try to build the LPG tank in place, new side routing for the exhaust will do the job i think

Instead of the pierced venturi there is a OHG X450 mixer LPG vacuum carburator from a USA-V8 car i want to try, is spring balanced on the mixture.

I have an automatic it travels 2, 3, 4 and does not use the first gear is that normal. I can shfit 1 gear manual and it works. Is the first gear engaged under load when towing?

Usually 2nd gear start unless kickdowned, like most mercs, you may need to adjust your gearbox/throttle linkage (the one that goes across the top of the cylinder head
