Re: Wolf in the water

Why on the second one did he go in at an angle? , Looking at the air intake on mine, that would have sucked in water and ended up being very expensive. Does it depend on if you have a Petrol/Diesel model?

But looks fun anyway! :)

Cheers

Re: Wolf in the water

sorry Mark, I heard that water is a sore subject

I wondered about the intake too - unless he was trying to keep the electronics dry - it looks like the MB testing site but not sure.

Sounds like you lot should have bought a boat each.
Cliff, I hope you remember to put those floor plugs in if you try any of the above this weekend :P

Newbie question - Floor plugs? Do these come standard or do you have to get them installed after?

Spiderman, yours is a W463 V8 and that means that it's got two air intakes, each one on the front fenders, whereas the G in the videos is an early W463 -by the sound of the engine a 300GE probably- and these had the air intake on the LHS fender, hence the inclination to the right.

If driving a W460/1 you have to drive with an inclination to the left, because the air intake is to the RHS inside the engine bay....

Cheers for that, so advice would be to either get a snorkle or don't do deep water?

I have also noticed that while the general shape has not changed there are different model number e.g W460, W460/1 W463 etc is there somewhere that a noobie like me can read up on what they reffer to located in the website?

Last one - Drain plugs?
Many thanks

Re: Wolf in the water

The military Gs like twodogs has come with a drain hole in the floor infront of the seats - it's about 75mm diameter and has a bung in it for normal use - I assume it is for letting the water out if it comes in when you've been in a bit too deep or even in heavy rain - it is a soft top - but then you could always open the door..........

For further info on model types then mortinsons' site
http://mercedesgwagen.galeon.com/
has all the info - the man knows everything
There is also the 25th aniversary book which is very good reading

Somewhere on youtube is a clip of a unimog going up those steps and it shows the inclination - 100%

This is the best website to get to know about the GWagen models:
http://www.g4rce.net/engl/models.html

You can also check mine: http://mercedesgwagen.galeon.com

You can go into deep water in you G... but only with two snorkels and some protection for the engine's electrics.
