this foto says it all
They are lucky none of them crushed into a G wagen!
Geländewagen Owners Association,
Below are some photographs of some Mercedes Benz Geländewagen accidents.

So it is clear that "G" Wagens lack crumple zones therefore F=MA decrees that the force suffered by the occupants is greater than that suffered by those in micky mouse cars with modern design/crumple zones, ie. look at the "Hummer", the passenger cell is intact/ undamaged, the force of the collision being absorbed by the deformation of the structure forward of the windscreen.
Try driving a nail with a rubber hammer?
The only advantage of the "G" is greater mass ie the "G" is more likely to continue to travel in the same direction while a lightweight car is pushed back, depending on the relative impact velocities, momentum = mass by velocity by velocity.
However a "G" against a 44 tonner ?
Cheers

Marcus,
I would leave that testing and conclusions to the engineers and professionals to make a decision. As you can view from the photos below the Mercedes Benz Geländewagen has gone various testing by Mercedes Benz.

Oh aye James I do,
leave the sums and testing to the engineers,
But, Ok I jump to assumptions/conclusions
I do however recall some chat that MB were going to discontinue the "G" because they could not get it to meet / pass the recent/latest crash tests, perhaps this was in relation to pedestrian injuries though.
My only experience of even being near an accident ever was when a Volvo travelling behind us veered and hit an oncoming small Seat car head on, there was some bang, cars slewed round etc etc, when the dust settled the drivers got out both unscathed, due to crumple zones,, seat belts and air bags all working as they should. the front of the wee Seat was a complete mess but the pass cell was undamaged and the door still opened, slightly less damage to the Volvo, being heavier / stronger.
Cheers
youall
Marcus
What happens when an irresistible force meets an immovable object?
So, does a G qualify as an “Immovable Object†or an “Irresistible Force†or perhaps both?
So, does a G qualify as an “Immovable Object†or an “Irresistible Force†or perhaps both?
It was certainly an “Irresistible Force†for me when it came to getting one...
Well as Fred Dickinson who attempted to instruct us would be Engineers in the black arts of Mathematics said "a million is not necessarily a large number, it depends on the limits set".
ditto for apparently immovable objects and apparently irresistible forces.
Ps
Did you know that time travel is theoretically possible?
Seem so.
So see you sooner,
Well it will be quite some time later before I can be sooner

British safety stats show... your are twice as likely to survive in an SUV ... but you are twice as likely to kill/injury the car you hit. Sadly the safest car is a L/R Defender! G do no come into it as they are too rare. ML second in safety but wide spread.
I have the whole front end off my 460 and there are no crumple sections to the chassis as a normal monocot car .. I would say it is decidely high g inside the G for the occupants. So safer for running into 40t artics at 70mph but at 30mph impact 90% other cars will leave you with less bruising as they will take the impact. Now... there will be times.. sandwich impacts etc when the G is better..

.. page 6 .. 4x4 and People carriers kill more other types of drivers... by factor of 2 !!

Well you could line up every single Merc. Engineer and they will never convince me it has crumple zones or is as advanced from a safety point of view as any premium manufacturers current 4X4.

Just goes to show what tosh our hard earned taxes are used to produce, how many millions and how many worthless researchers did that take? I think I would rather take my chances in a rotten 1980 Fiat Panda over a Defender
g wagens do have crumple zones.
but due to the fiendish intellect of german/austrian designers they arent actually part of the g wagen itself.
they consist of whichever flimsy little eurobox you have just obliterated!!!!

  i want a refund, if thats the kind of info they come out with, or it may reflect the fact that LR's don't really spend much time away from the mechanics
So strap a Smart car or Fiat Panda to the front bumper  yes?
after a few months of g ownership i had a little incident, i hit a vauxhall vectra in the rear doing about thirty. The mass of the g prevailed and i pushed the vectra a good 30ft, it removed the back end of the vectra to the rear window and il i got was a banged knee and broken number plate. il take my chances in the g and not a eurobox!!!
Did the Vectra driver regard it as "a little incident "?
