Hello people,

I'm looking at a couple of G's at present, both metallic blue but one has body coloured arches and maybe the bump strip down the side where as the other has black arches etc. Is this normal or does it indicate anything specific? Was it an option or do black arches indicate a later addition?

I forgot to ask, can the black plasticy arches get sprayed up?

Re: Body coloured wheel arches

It was an option on earlier Gs - but most of the earlier ones with painted arches were done aftermarket. So yes they can be painted.

It became standard at some point - 2000 perhaps?

Same goes with the bumpers.

Not sure what you mean by the bump on the side - if you are referring to the horizontal rubber strip then that should never be painted. But newer Gs have an inlay - chrome or similar depending on specific model.

Ah, that's probably it, not to mention my bad eyesight!

It is amazing how different they look with body coloured bits and peices! theres a very pretty red G500 on Autotrader for £30k which, IMHO, looks perfect!

It would be interesting to find out how much it would cost at the spray shop to get the bumpers and arches sprayed up?

Shouldn't be too hard or expensive if you take all the arches and bumpers off the car and take them to the spray shop that would save on labour.

Hi If you remove the arches a new set of brackets and bolts are a must ...GBP 34 +vat from MB (quote the VIN Number when ordering) and make sure the paint code (found on a plate on the heater air intake duct) is correct.................

Hi Peter,
I know it may sound like a silly question but when I removed one of my arches I found the bolts went into a plastic wing fitting and so came out easily and back in without difficulty so to my question: why then replace the set of bolts and fittings is there something I am missing out on?

Regards,

Mike

Re: Body coloured wheel arches

Hi I found many of the metal fixtures holding the plastic fittings to be very rusty.I also removed the front and rear wheel arch liners in order to pressure wash and waxoil behind them and as I did not plan to repeat this operation I replaced all the metal fixtures but put the old ones into hot water to soften the plastic fittings enough to re-use. the bolts were not the best so I replaced those as well....then I sold the G'!!! but you have these things to do !!! I Guess????

Thanks Peter,

I knew you would have a logical explanation.
