Australian Army Get the G
I'm not sure if it has been posted here but you have already heard the news that Daimler Chrysler have been selected as the preferred supplier of light vehicles to replace the Australian Defence Force fleet of ageing Land Rovers. Subject to final negotiations they will supply an initial 1000 (approx) RHD vehicles in both 4x4 and 6x6 configurations.
Suffice to say that we down under are very pleased with this news and I hope that it may bode well for further RHD production for the G around the world (but maybe not). Check out the AGOA forum (via www.agoa.org.au ) for some links to the announcement.
I am hoping to get a close-up look at a 6x6 in the next few weeks so I will post some photos when I have them.

I bet they have no money left for G's!
So how come MBenz refer to the "G WagOn"?
And what is F34 fuel,
This is referred to along with diesel,
presumably the latest spec avaition grade kero ?
Cheers
Marcus
F34 : NATO standard fuel.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JP-8
It is used for all military vehicles in this country at least because it will not gel as diesel fuel will at low temperatures.
Not much of a problem in Australia I think. :?
Yes skjohans,
as I figgured,
I was aware that in the Artic /Antartric Kero or jet fuel was used in diesels -- without modifications ?
And that the Americans had a single battlefield fuel policy
But how do the injection pumps stick it ?
Especially the latest very high presurre common rail pumps ?
Cheers
Marcus
F34 is Avtur or Aviation Turbine fuel. MoDUK requires all diesel powered vehicles to be able to run on the stuff because there is so much of it around in war zones and it allows for a single fuel policy. Most diesels will run on it, but it is not the best for performance...... leaves a bit to be desired. It doesn't have quite the same inherent lubrication qualities of Derv, either, so eventually injector pumps suffer a bit too.
But hey, its our taxs that pay for the new pumps, so why worry
Seriousley though
is there no perscription / instructions / standing orders for mixing lub oil in with the Avtur to leave it more "diesel like"?
Marcus
Correct that it is the 280 CDI.
