Those of you not too bored by my ramblings will know I've been restoring an '89 LWB which had sat around for quite some time (4 or 5 years i think)following an engine blow.

Ive put a 280CE engine in which helps a bit with the weight  fitted 4 x 2nd hand doors, new window motors, new rear shocks and springs, new wheel cylinders/shoes/handbrake etc, skimmed discs and new pads, stainless exhaust, etc etc etc.

When I did the brakes I did my usual wheel bearing play check and all was well. She went up for MOT and since then i've done about 150 miles all very short journeys, with a few little niggles but nothing really considering the lay-up time.

Did a longer journey Saturday morning taking the little 'un and his friend and his pops to an away football match ( i am the manager) and on the way back all was not well.......growling front end noises, soggy steering, and i thought it was the front tyres saying enough's enough (see my tyres posting!!!). I popped into the garage on my way home and sure enough my offside front was down to 18PSI, which I rectified. A bit better for the 3 miles (in slow traffic) on the way home.

I lifted her up today to check it out, and was horrified to find about 3" free play top and bottom on the wheel. Took off the hub nut cover, one nut just about holding the hub in place.

It was quite a shock, believe me. Ive spent the last 3 hrs searching the forum and EPC on what should be there and as far as i can tell its 2x nuts plus a locktab washer.........so a trip to MB beckons tomorrow methinks (what a joy)

The moral of the story? Assume nothing, expect the unexpected, and check, check, and check again...............
